Long may you have contemplated their existence; what else could possibly account for all those unmatched or “odd” socks in your drawers and laundry baskets?
The Oddsockeaters is a riotously colourful, highly entertaining animated feature – a huge domestic hit that was three-and-a-half years in the making. Rival gangs of colourful creatures – not altogether unsocklike themselves – wreak family-friendly, CGI havoc in a highly recognisable, if exaggerated, version of current day Prague. An all-star cast, including the legendary Josef Somr as Professor René Kaderábek, the film’s principal human character and oddsockeater antagonist, give voice to the memorable and variously scrupled characters from Pavel Šrut’s bestselling children’s books. Director Galina Miklínová was the original illustrator of those books; little wonder that her feature debut so perfectly captures their spirit and big heart!
